Stephanie Leavell (formerly Johnson) is a Boise native who grew up singing and playing the harp.  Through her years as a performer, she was often drawn to the ability of music to encourage relaxation and expression.  Shortly after discovering the field of music therapy, Stephanie was hooked and received her bachelor's in music therapy at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. During her training, she had the pleasure of working closely with a range of clients in various settings (see below), and near the end of her training was invited to pursue an intership at Boston's prestigious Massachusetts General Hospital under her mentor, Lorrie Kubicek, MT-BC where she worked with individuals and groups with various medical needs and intensities.  She received her board certification in January 2010. Stephanie feels incredible passion for her career and is committed to providing this cutting-edge service to individuals in her beloved home town.  Stephanie provides private and group music therapy sessions through Music Therapy of Idaho and is also the founder of a new non-profit, called The Idaho Music Therapy Initiative, Inc. Stephanie's Population Experience:

  • Inpatient pediatric units
  • Outpatients on a specialized Proton Radiation Unit
  • Children with severe and profound medical and developmental disabilities in the special education setting

Kerry Leavell, a former Centennial High School Patriot, is excited to have returned to the City of Trees.  She holds a bachelors degree in music performance with an emphasis in percussion from Wheaton College's Conservatory of Music in Wheaton, Illinois, and recently completed her Master of Arts in expressive therapies with a specialization in music therapy and mental health counseling from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  Kerry completed two nine-month internships as a graduate student, which involved music therapy work with a variety of populations (see below).  She is currently working towards her LCPC (Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor) credential, which she intends to receive in September 2012. Kerry describes her approach to therapy as follows: "I see therapy of any kind as a process of discovery and feel truly honored each time I am invited to walk alongside individuals on their journeys.  I hold a primarily humanistic orientation and believe that growth and healing come out of relationships, and that every person is uniquely intelligent, has intrinsic worth, and exists for a purpose that only he/she can fulfill.  As a therapist, my goal is to equip each individuals with the skills, knowledge, and/or insights necessary to discover and fully employ those elements to live most abundantly." Kerry's Population Experience:
  • Acute inpatient pediatric psychiatry
  • Children and adults with mild to profound developmental disabilities, delay, and/or learning disabilities
  • Survivors of domestic violence (women and children)
  • Participants of Early Intervention programs
  • Inpatient pediatric hospital patients (Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, PICU, and Pediatric Inpatient floor)
